Amazon savanna has been considered as minor or less interesting within the Amazon ecological landscape. Nevertheless, at ecological, landscape diversity and biodiversity levels, as well as from a biogeographical point of view, these savanna areas acquire considerable importance. This book makes a significant contribution to the knowledge of the Amazon Savanne, considering aspects that go from taxonomy, vegetation studies, and ecology, up to ethnobotany. The core of the book is the taxonomic treatment of 55 families, 116 genera and 188 species of vascular plants. Keys are provided for the angiosperms and Pteridophyte families and for all species treated. 59 species belonging to the 16 most important families are fully illustrated in line drawings.
