Colombia - 14 November, 2016
The educational processes on environmental issues about the use and conservation of the tropical dry forests in the Caribbean region in Colombia have been strengthen by the various educational materials produced by the project Alternative pedagogical approaches in the dry tropical forest.
The project Alternative pedagogical approaches in the dry tropical forest ended early 2016 with the organization of various events for the delivery of the educational materials produced. The local authors shared the results with principals and teachers of educational institutions and instructors of the National Service Learning-SENA.
Simililarly, the materials where handed out to the Natural Heritage Fund, whom incoordination with UNDP will promote their use, as well as to the ‘Programa Jóvenes Rurales Emprendedores del SENA’ for them to distribute them in training centers located in areas of the country with tropical dry forest. In this way the project’s objective to scale the results of the Landscape Conservation project was fulfilled.
The materials comprise a printed guide and digital synthesis, and a series of eight digital modules that allow the strengthening of different issues relevant to the use and conservation of dry forests and they are aimed at teachers of Departmental Educational Institutions of the Caribbean region and SENA instructors.
The guide and the different modules integrate technical information, information acquired from local knowledge, educational experiences and proposals from various educational exercises. These materials are an invitation to creatively develop environmental curricula based on practices that consider the peculiarity and the needs of this ecosystem and its wise management.
